The following is a description of the Old Dutch Fort in Galle in the Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Galle fort was built first by the Portuguese, then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Even today, after 400 years of existence, it looks new and polished with reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. Today Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world.

Today, the citizens of Dutch fort in Galle are trying to make this a free port and a free trade zone. If successful no taxes are levied on the companies and individuals who reside inside the city.

The Dutch fort also known as Ramparts of Galle withstood the mighty Boxing Day tsunami which destroyed the Galle town. There are many Moor families who live inside this fort along with Sinhalese,Dutch, English, Portuguese and Germans. More details regarding the history of the fort can be found at the visitors centre and at the Dutch period museum inside the Fort.

The tax system proposed inside the fort says there is no withholding tax, no tax on capital gains, no corporate tax for ten years from the start of the business, no VAT, and no profit tax.

Some of the not famous Moor families who live inside the fort are Noordeen Cassim’s family and Fatima Koppen Adams family who run a story telling center for the tourists and children who visit these places every day.

Paradise Beach Club Holds Famous TUSART Russian Festival in December ’09

A group of nearly 250 world famous artists, musicians, dancers, and movie directors from mainly Russia and other European countries decided to hold their Annual TUSART festival in Sri Lanka. This was a first for Sri Lanka and a great boost for the tourism industry here. They chose Paradise as their venue, and for over a month, the little fishing village Mirissa was busy.

The group had music festivals, discos, activities for kids, free dance and yoga lessons and other activities. The New Year’s party was the culminating event before they went on other excursions around the island.

The newest addition to Paradise Beach Club is their Ayurvedic Centre which opened in December ’09. The Ayurveda doctor and the masseur introduce visitors to a whole new concept of living well. Treatment is available here using traditional herbal and oil massage be it head, neck or full body massage and also the flower scented herb bath. The Panchakarma treatment is also a unique feature here and is a 10 – 20 day treatment that starts from head to toe. The patient is left revitalized and with a feeling of well-being after this treatment. The Ayurvedic Centre also has treatment for those suffering from Heart Decease, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Eye Sight, Rheumatoid Arthritis and all physical ailments as well as Back Pain, Memory Loss, Stress & Fatigue.
