"It's a beautiful coastline with rugged rocks, plus sandy beaches and coconut groves. There are fisherman that stand on poles. They stand there for hours, just fishing from these poles." A 30-year war which hit the tourism industry only ended last year. The island attracted 447,000 tourists including business visitors and regional tourists who are not necessarily interested in beaches. Two Sri Lanka beaches make top grade: Forbes

Total of 16 weeks - For us there is no better place to stay in Sri Lanka than Paradise Beach Club. This place is relaxed and still it has the things we need when traveling with our 2 small kids. No other place in Sri Lanka but Paradise / Merissa is where we return to and spend most of our time off. There is by far more up marked resorts but we have found them too fancy for us to relax in and too expensive . The food here is fair but plain, the beach waves is to much for small kids, but perfect for adults to play. I can spend hours a day here playing - the kids in the pool. I do miss it so much. We will for sure return again some day. The beach was to die for, quiet and unspoilt, a treasure. It is how Unawatuna used to be 20 years ago, when back in Sri Lanka we will definately come and stay at Paradise Beach Club. The staff were friendly and inviting and the hotel was clean and welcoming. What more could you want? We visited Paradise Beach Club at Mirissa just for the day, but when we arrived we realized we should have stayed there for longer. The beach was to die for, quiet and unspoilt, a treasure. According to research done by NARA (National Aquatic Research Agency), and confirming the story of his quest to verify a theory by British Marine Scientist Dr. Charles Anderson. "Of the 3 records of Orca sightings since 2008, two have been at Kalpitiya, photographed in March 2008 by Senaka Abeyratne and on January 31st, 2010 by Maithri Liyanage. It is likely that Kalpitiya could rival Mirissa for the diversity of species of marine mammals. However, Mirissa may remain the top spot for watching Blue Whales because the migratory movement postulated by Charles takes them past Dondra twice. I saw no Blue Whales on the two days I was whale watching at Kalpitiya. In contrast on Wednesday February 24th, Anoma Alagiyawadu, the Jetwing Lighthouse naturalist observed what he believed to be seven different Blue Whales from Mirissa. It is too early to conclude where Trincomalee, Mirissa and Kalpitiya will rank in terms of overall species diversity, the likelihood of seeing Blue Whales and Sperm Whales, etc. But what is very clear is that we have a scientific basis for concluding that Sri Lanka has three key sites for whale watching because of the proximity of the continental shelf, the marine mammal species diversity and logistics. I was very impressed by the hospitality given by your restaurant staff particularly the guy named Nuwan and also the Restaurant manager itself. Nuwan seems very curious about every single guest in the restaurant and he talked to me like a close friend.... I've traveled alot across Asia and eat in different restaurants but never got such hospitality like in your beach club ! I learned alot about Srilankan lifestyle after chatting with him. Later on, I made a mistake by just dashing off to the beach without settling the breakfast payment, and that caused a problem to Nuwan. I sincerely apologize for that.
